United Kingdom

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated off the Northwest coast of Europe. The British Isles consist of two large islands, Great Britain and Ireland, and many small islands.

The UK consists of four parts. They are: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The area of the UK is 314 000 sq. km.

The population of the United Kingdom is over 58 million people. The main nationalities are: English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish. The capital of the country is London. English is the official language. The Severn is the longest river, the Thames is the most popular river.

Еngland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. England’s population is about 53 million. London is the capital and largest financial centre in Europe. Football is the most popular sport in England.

The next part of the United Kingdom is Scotland. Edinburgh is the country’s capital and second largest citу. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland. Scotland is famous for its shipbuilding industry. The population of Scotland is 5,062,011.

Wales is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It has a population 3,063,456, and has a total area of 20,779 km². Cardiff is the capital of Wales.

Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom. Its population is 1,810,863. The Northern Ireland is famous for its shipbuilding industry and textiles. English is spoken as a first language. Golf and Football is the most popular in Northern Ireland. Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland.

Head of the state. Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of New Zealand and the Head of state but her position is largely symbolic. The Head of Government is the Prime Minister.
